Securing wireless networks in your home or office is very important in order to keep all your personal information safe. No one wants to risk having their financial or personal information floating around in cyberspace for anyone to snatch and use for their own nefarious purposes. While technology has made it easy to set up your own wireless networks, it has also made it easy to set up the safeguards you need to keep everything private and safe from identity thieves. With just a few tips you can ensure that your wireless network is safe from prying eyes.
When you purchase a wireless system you will most likely have to log on with a very generic password set up by the manufacturer, this is where you should take the first step in securing wireless networks by changing that password immediately. Leaving the manufacturers password will give thieves who know and understand different wireless systems more of an opportunity to break into a specific wireless network. That password is your first defense against bad people trying to break into your network and possibly your hard drive.
Some other things you can that help in securing wireless networks include not broadcasting your SSID number. It is easy to keep that from showing up on other people’s wireless networks. In other words, your network will be invisible to those with wireless cards. At the very least, you should engage your WEP encryption along with not broadcasting your SSID, using WPA would be even better. Your manufacturer’s instructions will show you how to do all this. It is very simple in most cases and really should be done in order to best protect your network. It can really be a mess if someone gets into your hard drive.
Another good tool for securing wireless networks is to keep your broadcasting settings low. The higher output of broadcasting the more you network system will show up on other people’s wireless systems. The lower power is always the best way to go. Just figure out what is sufficient for your work area and where you need your wireless to work and go with that setting. You will find that this is also an easy way to prevent any kind of cyber thievery of your hard drive. One other thing to do to maintain your wireless network safety is to disable any remote administration functions as well.

If you need a new computer infrastructure system for your business but don’t have the capital don’t worry, you can try cloud computing. There is a way to get you are a top-notch computer system up and running in your business complete with every application you need. Cloud computing allows you to get into the computer game without laying out tens of thousands of dollars in capital to build a system. You also save tons of money in not having to maintain your own computer system and networks.
Cloud computing as an alternative to purchasing your own computer system can change the way you do business forever. The way cloud computing works is you buy into a cloud system, so called because of the diagram networkers have come up with showing how the different computing resources are utilized. What a cloud computing model does is allow you to use the software you need for your business, access the Internet and perform all the other functions you normally would with your computer system on a shared system. The infrastructure is owned by an outside company and distributed to its customers.
Cloud computing is like any other utility you might have like gas or electric. You simply get a monthly bill for your service that is calculated depending on the company you deal with. Sometimes the bill is a shared bill computed by how much usage the whole system has dispensed within a month. So, if there were little usage comparatively the bill would be lower. This of course has to do with the kind of companies in the network and when and how many resources they consume. However, there are so many areas to save in with cloud computing the argument almost always swings in their favor.
To reiterate, going with cloud computing as an option is a perfect way for companies that want to forego the expense of building and maintaining their own computer system, in exchange for paying a third party for usage. It is particularly good for companies that may be involved in the low-tech sector but need computer systems to operate the administrative function of their business. Cloud computing is very reliable and user friendly and the hassle factor is very low to you as a company, because you do not have to deal with maintaining the system, upgrades or any problems that may pop up occasionally.

In response to its users’ demands the Facebook privacy policy has been changed to be more user friendly. Facebook has taken the world by storm allowing everyone with an Internet connection and a personal computer to get in contact with old friends and family members, or stay in contact with new ones for absolutely no charge. It has truly changed the way we communicate because of its global reach and the ability to find people just about anywhere. The problem is how much information do you really want out there? There could be things you want some people to know but not others.
The cleaning up of the Facebook privacy policy is out of consideration for its users. Even though it is a free platform, people felt that they did not have the option to keep certain things private and that made them uneasy. In this day and age when information is swirling around out there with few or not protections, it is understandable that people may want to keep some of their information as private as possible. Having information out there for everyone to see is just asking for trouble. It could be as obvious as attracting identity thieves or stalkers.
The Facebook privacy policy reminds all of us of the possibility of more sinister roles of people seeking out information through Facebook. Some of your old friends might be as friendly anymore and could be looking to cause some kind of problems. In the case of older folks there could be scammers out there gleaning your information off of your home page and using it to approach with the intent to do something bad. That is the other side to having this much electronic access. There can be a negative aspect to it.
Fortunately, with the Facebook privacy policy all that nonsense can be avoided and this revolutionary way to reach out to people can be safeguarded. The new policy makes it easier to allow some information to go only to the contacts you choose. You are able to pick and choose anything that you want to appear to anyone you like. This way you can disseminate information about yourself and your activities with all the safeguards needed to maintain your personal privacy. This is a welcomed and well-touted change by the people at Facebook and is a testament to how committed they are to their original intent.

So, Google’s next target is unified communications which should come as no surprise to its competitors or customers. With the kind of resources and name recognition Google has in the computer industry it should really be no stretch to think they would get into what has up to this point been the purview of such companies as Microsoft and Cisco. And, those companies are talking it seriously. Since Google launched Google Wave and Google Voice, companies already involved in unified communications have taken notice and are positioning themselves for a possible battle.
While most companies that deal in the genre are more commercially based, Google’s next target is aimed more towards the personal user. But business will get their share of Google’s new products too, as the company believes that business is as interested in the social networking craze as a means of marketing and is fertile territory for Google. The competition is recognizing this fact and certainly is a bit flustered about it. Google can pretty much do what they want in the area of unified communications because it is still a pretty limited market with not a lot of competition.
This new business segment means Google’s next target market will change drastically in the next few years. Google Wave and Google Voice are going to give consumers a new opportunity to get all they have ever wanted in unified communications capability, most likely at a cheaper rate. That is not making the current providers very happy but it is certainly making potential customers optimistic. This threat to current unified communications providers means good news for companies and individuals who have been waiting to combine their communications resources into a unified communications network and with a name like Google, there will be a lot of interest.
As stated before, Google’s next target sector of unified communication really shouldn’t surprise anyone. It has been a long time since Google revolutionized the search engine business and internet marketing and like all companies who reach a certain point of maturity in their business cycles, change is not just a word, it is a necessity. Google is hedging all their bets and making sure that they stay not just a viable business but a household name for many generations to come. Google has become as ubiquitous to computing as Kleenex has to paper tissue and its intent is to remain so for a while.

In the argument for Smart Phone vs. netbook, the outcome is not easy. Both technologies are so advanced and each one of them does so many amazing things, the answer lies in logistics. Technology has come so far that we can access anyone and everything worldwide any time of day or night from devices as small as a cigarette package and laptops that are as small as a purse. Worldwide access is a few key clicks away for anyone at anytime.
So what could the answer possibly go with a Smart Phone or go with a netbook? Obviously, it all has to do with what you need for your specific Internet options. If you just need to check e-mail here and there throughout the day then a smart phone is perfect. Even for some browsing a smart phone is sufficient. The main problem is going to be the size of the screen. The speed may be a little slower than a netbook too, but not by very much. The other thing to keep in mind is phone quality. Netbooks are not quite there yet in the phone department although they are improving almost daily.
The real issue and question here is portability as to whether to choose a smart phone over a netbook. If you absolutely need to have a small device then going with the Smart Phone is the way to do it. If you have the option of being able to tote around a netbook you will get more capabilities. It’s being said that netbooks are great for women because they can double as a purse in that they can hold all kinds of information. In fact, some manufacturers are designing netbooks with just that fact in mind making them stylish and fashionable. If you carry a briefcase then it’s a no brainer for sure.
Whatever you choose a Smart Phone or netbook, you can be sure to get the latest in technology and that our electronic world continues to change and evolve into amazing areas to make our lives a little easier. Everyday these devices become smarter and smarter and easier to use. There is no limit to what you can do in the mobile world these days. Where you work and play is just a matter of geography. No longer are people tethered to workstations but are free to roam and be productive at the same time.

It is time to go green with personal technology and green computers are finally here to get you started. It is actually easy to go green with your computer and it can save not only the environment but money as well. The first thing you should know is that buying a green computer is not that much more expensive than a non-green one. However, with the energy efficiency you will more than make up the extra dough you spend on a green one. If you do some poking around the Internet you’ll find out who sells the greenest computers.
That is one of the best tips for finding green computers that you can get. You need to research. Research like crazy. In this ever-changing computer environment greener computers are coming out every day. Here’s a good tip, buy a laptop and not a desktop. Laptops are much more efficient with power use. Also get an energy efficient display on your laptop because there are great displays that lose nothing because they are greener. With a laptop you will get the same performance as a desktop and a great viewing experience with the screen. But, you will be using far less resources.
When buying green computers try as hard as possible to resist buying anything with harmful substances like mercury or flame retardant chemicals. These can get into the environment when you discard the computer. While we are talking about that we should also mention not to buy anything that comes packed in excessive packaging. Apple is good at packing their computers minimally. Also, make sure the packaging is from recycled materials as well. Another tip is to be sure when you toss your old non-green computer, to do it through a certified recycling program.
One thing to do to stay green even with new green computers is to always leave your computer in low power mode when not in use. You would be amazed how much energy you can save by doing this. Most laptops and desktops alike have an energy saving mode. Also, shut your computer off when you go to bed and if you use a power strip shut that off too. It is amazing how much electricity can be saved by just doing these little, easy to remember things. Going green is easy to do and it is socially responsible as well as economical and it just feels like the right thing.

Wi-Fi hotspots are created in various public places where free internet access can be utilized with the use of a Wi-Fi card. An access point or router is internet enabled through a physical connection to a modem and then any personal computer or laptop within about 200 feet that has a Wi-Fi card can gain access to the internet through the access point. For the best connection, however, a distance of closer to 100 feet is recommended.
The technology that allows Wi-Fi hotspots to exist is similar to the idea of radio waves and walkie-talkies. While the frequencies of walkie-talkies are very different and comparatively primitive compared to Wi-Fi connections, the idea is the same. The higher frequencies of Wi-Fi and advanced encoding techniques allow it to transfer huge amounts of data at a time. The idea and development of Wi-Fi originated from the idea that business people are always on the move and usually require access to the internet. With the flexibility, cost effectiveness and hassle-free features of Wi-Fi, hotspots have become hugely popular among business people and pursuers of leisure alike.
Make sure that as you scope out hotspots in your area and prepare to utilize them that you have taken the necessary security precautions to protect your computer. Anyone within the same accessible distance as you may have access to your files if you do not take the needed safety measures like having a firewall or anti-virus software installed and running. Using the convenient technology of Wi-Fi hotspots is very appealing, but all users must be careful.
Utilizing free Wi-Fi hotspots is a popular way to browse the web while you are on a lunch break, relaxing at a park, waiting for the bus, or a number of other activities. The ability to access the internet in an outdoor setting is very convenient. Businesses that offer free Wi-Fi hotspots usually choose to do so as a service to their patrons. Areas that are more densely populated like downtown city locations and other metropolitan areas are the only places right now where many hotspots are available. Some businesses plan on purpose to have hotspots overlap so a wide area can be covered without any lapse in access. Free Wi-Fi hotspot directories exist for many cities now where hotspots abound. To find out more about places you can access in your city, search for free Wi-Fi hotspots near you.
